I had a modded Remora Pro for my 72 gallon tank, but that's just not going to cut it on my new 125 gallon tank. I will have about 50 gallons of sump water volume along with the 125(minus rock work), so let me know if you or anyone you know is getting rid of a big skimmer.
I might try a DIY skimmer, but wanted to ask here first.

    Thanks

    Adam

Think this one would do the trick? (See 1 gallon bottle at the bottom of the skimmer for size comparison)

I'm trying to get on RC's buy/sell... did they close that off to users who don't have enough posts now?

Ya we had this discussion on a thread AJ posted. You have to have 50 meaningful posts or something like that

Have you thought about running 2 smaller skimmers? Wasn't there talks about advantages of running 2 different skimmers during Fall Fest? AJ chime in because I believe you told me about this

    Well, it's on RC's buy/sell right now for around $3500 I think.  That'll be $7k.  Enjoy your skimmers.  /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/wink.gif

Anthony Calfo was talking about this.  He was mentioning that different types of skimmers create the bubbles in different ways which impacts how the proteins bind to the bubbles.  Result, different types of skimmers will pull out different skimmate.  Also, after a good skimmer cleaning, your skimmer will not skim as well as it could while as it dirties up the neck again, during this time, your tank is probably not getting rid of all that biological waste that it could.  Having two skimmers allows you to always keep one running.  I've never done this myself...just what Anthony was telling me.

I guess I could run my Remora Pro with a Quiet One 2200 pump, 2 Bak Pak skimmers, a Seaclone 150, and a reverse-flow airstone skimmer!

Talk about going green! Any ideas what you would do for a DIY one?

Probably the 5 gallon handle-less Culligan jug. Not sure on pumps or pump style.

Turns out it doesn't include the pump... Is it worth $150 with no pump?

With a quick search it looks like a brand new pump (sedra 5000) will be about $100. So you would have a little over half the price of a new one wrapped up into it when all said and done. Who knows maybe there would be a better pump you could use on it and be better of not having the stock pump.

Or could get a brand new Reef Octopus NWB 200 Needle Wheel Protein Skimmer from Aquacave for a little less. I am running an external 110 version and love mine and I believe the pumps they run are supposed to be really good.

I was in contact with a guy in Alabama that has a Aqua C EV-240 for sale. That was just monday. I was going to buy it from him for 200 included shipping, but bought an ev-400 instead. He is on reefcentral under the user name hershell. he has a for sale post there too: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1749039

    seemed like a decent deal.
