I have a a 130 gallon tank with an additional refugium plumbed in. I have enough live rock to keep the tank running with the low fish load I have. However, over time, I would like to add a few more fish. So, I am looking for cheap inexpensive rock to add to the tank. Does not have to be alive. Base rock would work. Just looking to see if someone is in need to get it off their hands. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif
    PM me if you do.

I'm confused cause the amount of live rock you have in a tank does not determine how many fish you have

I was under the impression that more live rock will help with processing the increased bioload of the tank. So, I am looking for rock for 2 reasons. One, to improve the aestetics of the tank, and 2 to add add more to my refugium and for better filtration of my water.

You are fine then.... but you want it to make your rock work look different....

Some tanks do not have any live rock.

Yeah, I would like to have the tank turn into a reef tank with lots of sps, lps, and zoas. So, I thought I will need a bit more LR in order to give some aquascape to the tank. I would also like to add a bit of LR rubble to the fuge I am in the process of setting up. Maybe I will have to put a few pics up to see if people agree or not when I get home. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

Well it's if you like it or not lol but in my own personal experience I took a lot out of my big tank cause of growth of my corals

your best filter is liverock i like to utilize the sump for this bio filter. by using the sump you can keep less rock in the main display. i have some base rock that will be fine for that for cheap. i can get live rock also just let me know how many pounds and what type you are interested in i may go in on it with you to save on ship

This is what it looks like now. Is more rock a good idea?

Every where i've seen on the internet says if you want to use your live rock as ur main filtration u need to have at least a pound of rock per gallon. I've seen a lot of people almost doubling their rock to gallon

Yeah, that is kind of what I thought. So if anyone has some cheap rock let me know. Otherwise, I might be ordering from reefcleaners. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/wink.gif

This is true to some extent. A lot depends on how porous  the rock you are using is. Also you want to try ad avoid putting all that rock in your display, you end up limiting yourself as to what and how much you can put in a tank with a ton of rock in it.
This is a great write up on aquascaping.

I usually try to. Not much right now. Everyone wants to only set a complete setup and my wife would kill me if I got a 4th tank. Lol.

The more rock the better, but not all of it needs to be in the display tank.

Armydog is right. If you put too much rock in your display and your corals take off, it can actually be a headache.

I'd go for quality over quantity. Good quality live rock in 1 or 2 nice rock structures, but don't jam pack the tank with it.

If you're worried about not having enough, stick a few pieces in your sump, refugium, etc.
