I'm looking for a used maxijet 600 or 900.  Anyone have one collecting dust in their fish room that's close to North Liberty?

Do you need it as a powerhead or something else?

I have a 900 that's missing the output tube and screened input (old Seaclone pump) - could be modded for other pump uses.
    Works great.  Less filling [IMG]

How much do you want for it Eric?
BTW seaclone's suck.  I have one on my QT tank.  It is a piece of crap.  It needs to be about 2 ft taller to actually be functional /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/tongue.gif
I want to use this on a new project.  An in sump Kalk stirrer that mixes tank water with Kalk and then diffuses it out slowly to the tank.  Should be fun AND dangerous /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/wink.gif

I don't know about the Seaclones - I had a modded 150 that pulled a cupful of dark brown crap every couple of days from my old 75 before the ETSS.
    PM sent on the Maxi-Jet.

I have the 100 and it doesn't pull out very much at all. I have 7 fish in a 35g hospital system. How'd you mod yours? Wooden airstone?

Replied to your PM and I'll bring it tomorrow.

Regarding the Seaclone, I had a later version that I purchased in 2003.  The earlier vesion's riser tube was too long and many people would cut it shorter for more contact time - I didn't need to do that.
With such a bioload, you should get a lot of output.

    I had two mods:

You can cut a bioball in half, through the equator for lack of a better term, and it can be attached to the impeller of the Maxi-Jet (actually stays with friction) to create finer bubbles/foam.

The collection cup needs to have a better seal to the body of the skimmer, some usd O-Rings, I just used plumber's tape.
    These alone significantly increased production.
Another mod is to use a brass air adjustment rather than the cheap plastic one that comes with it - I didn't but it does need frequent tinkering.
    I never tried the airstones.
Here's some reading on the mods:

And I know you like DIY:

This is what I would get out of the skimmer in less than a week

Looks like the mod I did for my Q/O 3000.

Pump chattered a little on start up, so I shaved some more off.

Haha, that's genius. You turned it into a needle wheel /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/wink.gif

Seaclone isn't a "bad" skimmer (I do have a Red Sea Prizm if you want to see bad) but it does need a little "help" to get it producing acceptable skimmate.
