I think I still have the moonlights that came with my stock biocube before I gutted the hood and popped in some LEDs. You would need to find a way to power the things. If you are interested, I will take a look in my box of junk in the closet and see if I can dig them out. I believe there are either two or three pods (bulbs). I found them kind of weak over 29 gallons, but I think they should light up a 10g just fine.

If you want to DIY, I have a moonlight driver, 4 royal blue moonlight LED's and thermal pads, all new.  I bought the parts about a month ago from Rapid LED and decided not to use them.  Same as this: http://www.rapidled.com/4-led-moonlight-kit/.

That looks great! How much and how hard to build?

How about $15, including shipping to you.  The cirucit is very simple, but you will need wire and soldering equipment.  According to information on the RapidLED website, the driver will run ~1 to 4 LEDs.  Plug the driver in to turn LED's on, unplug for off.  Here is a driver datasheet that shows a sample circuit: http://www.leds.co.uk/pdfs/magtech/LD-CU3512-01EC.pdf
I don't have a heatsink for these, and I'm not sure if you will actually need one, depending on where you mount the LED's.  Each led will consume ~1.2 Watts (3.3V @ 350mA).  Anyone want to chime in?

I want it. Could it power white led too?

It's conceivible that it could power white LED's. The driver provides a constant current of 350 mA, so for example, you would get a brightness of 139 lumens from a single Cree XP-G cool white LED. You could probably run as many as 3 before you exceed the voltage capacity of the driver. I think people typically drive Cree XP-Gs with ~750 mA and would get approximately double the lumen output.

Q: Will the moonlight kit need a heatsink?

A: I don't know for sure, but here is what I would do. I would connect one moonlight LED to the driver and plug it in. I would check how warm/hot the LED is after it has been on long enough to reach a steady state temperature. If it is only slightly warm, it probably doesn't need a heat sink. If it's moderately warm...I'd surely think about it. LED's last longer the cooler they run. If it's very warm, or hot, I would definitely use a heat sink.

When the wiring is complete and the whole project is done, I would check the moonlight LED's to make sure they weren't running hot. If it was me, I'd check a couple times the first night they are on; it would give me peace of mind to know everything works the way it is supposed to.

I see you started a different thread about doing a cheap LED build. You might be able to pop the moonlights on it, assuming it is a heat sink and there is room available. Good luck!

Thanks! I feel like an idiot... i thought the heatsink was for the electrical aspect. Not the name... HEAT. Lol designed to lower the heat. Lol
