Hi everyone, I am looking to acquire a reef light for one my tanks! I am a high-school student so I can unfortunately not afford a very expensive light, I have 5 different tanks that very from a 10 up to a 75 and would like to turn one into a reef tank, I have played around with reefs a lot, but wanted to finally get into it at my home aquariums, any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!-Noel

    Hi Noel,
Unfortunately it's really difficult to gauge what you consider expensive. Of you have a hood with screw in type bulbs they do sell a coralife 50/50 10000k screw in bulb I believe in 15 and 30 watt ratings. Two of those did me well above a 10g tank for about a year. I kept softies and some lps very successfully. I bought everything but the bulbs at Walmart. I think the bulbs were the most expensive part at about $25 for the two. Not sure of you wanted to go that route, so it's just a suggestion.

Hey thanks Bela! I will definitely look into this today! And by expensive I don't really want to spend over 100-150. and softies are all I really want to start out with, I was thinking maybe some yellow ricordea?

Ah ok. For $150 you can certainly get something decent. if nobody on here had anything, there is usually a lot of stuff that goes cheap on RC. Everyone is dumping their "old" lights for LEDs, especially on smaller systems. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/wink.gif
At your price range you could probably get just about anything you want if you search for the right deal!
I also have most of the guts of my biocube PC hood that you could have, free, if you wanted them. Been sitting in my box of stuff waiting for a rainy day. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif

You should be able to get a decent MH pendant and ballast for that with so many people switching to LEDs...and with MH, you could do the full spectrum of corals...softies, LPS and SPS.

I've got a 150 watt MH setup. It is a coralife aqualight advanced I would let go for $150. I'm in the CR area. Comes with a new stock 14k bulb. Also have some almost new XM 10000k bulbs as well that I have been trying out for a week that I would sell as well.
