Looking to purchase a refugium for my 60 gallon tank.  Let me know if you have one for sale or are able to build one and what you would charge.

What size and design are you looking for? How are you going to plumb it into your system?

Would be great to do a behind the tank refugium, but I could also do one under the tank as well. As far as size and design, I'd like to do 30 gallons or under. I don't really need a protein skimmer, but wouldn't care if it has one built in.

Do you want a refugium (a seperate tank full of cheato, rubble, and so on to help in filtration) Or a sump which houses return pump, heaters, skimmers and so on?

I just want a seperate but connected tank that can grow macroalgae to keep down algae in the big tank as well as grow some food for my fishies and corals.

I have a 20 long, it has 2 holes already drilled, a 1" hole and a 1/4" hole. Will need new bulkheads and a cleaning. $20
    I also have a 30g tank that isn't drilled $30

I can get you pics if you want.
I am in CR if you wanted to stop by and look.

    PM me if interested

Another quick question. What do you folks use for the base of your refugium? Mineral Mud or Sand or a combo?

I have never used Mineral Mud myself. But seems to have mixed reviews. I personally would go with a very deep sand bed, at least 6" deep. I would use either very fine sand or a larger kind. That will help the pods fine safe hiding spots.

I have not heard good reports from experienced reefers about using Miracle Mud...it is basically just that, mud.  Although many people use a DSB(deep sand bed) for nitrate reduction, I am not a supporter of a DSB.  If you are considering using one, I suggest you read about about it and make your own decision.  Most reefers using a DSB have not had the (same) DSB for any considerable length of time (eg, many years).  I do not use sand in my refugium.  I use LR (live rock) in mine which provides an area for copepods, brittlestars, amphipods, etc as well as the usual benefits that LR provides.  Copepods, stars, etc. live in (and on) LR as well as macroalgae.

After reading up on this I think what seems to make the most sense for a guy getting back into it is a 1 inch sand bed with plenty of live rock. I would plan on sticking macro-algae in there as well as some snails and maybe hermits? Maybe even a little shrimp guy. Any specific types of macro's I should stay from. I was thinking of using the types haun has at Sea of Marvels as he seems to have a clue as to what he is doing.

    Haun seems to use cheato.

So many questions, sorry.... Should I buy copepods or should I just assume Hauns pieces will have enough to get me started? Should I also purchase microalgae food for the copepods or will that happen on it's own accord. I use Rod's Fish Food and didn't know if that already had something like that in it.
