For my 40g breeder I need a few things and wonder if anybody has them in new or lightly used condition that I could buy from. I'm located in Coralville. I'm looking for:
Compact 75 GPD Reef keeper RODI  or similar (will also need a few float valves and a faucet adapter),
    Mag 7 return pump,
1 100 watt marineland Stealth heater
Plus, if you have any other random reef supplies, post some pics and prices. I know I'll need a bunch of other little things, like lockline, pvc or tubing, filter socks, a small light for refugium section of sump, and aquarium fans to keep MH's cool. I'm not sure on the specifics of those yet though, so if you have anything you want to part with, feel free to post it here /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif
    Thanks!!

Are you willing to ship? I'm all the way in Coralville and don't have a vehicle of my own to drive anywhere.

Ok, a quick update. I no longer need an RO/DI or Koralias seeing as I got such a speedy responce out of a couple members. I still need everything else though, so if you have it and don't want it, post or pm me!! /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif

A return pump from my sump... that's what its for right? I'm a huge newb so please don't laugh if that's not correct. I know it has more gph flow than I'll need so I was going to cut it back with a T valve...

realistically you wont need anything over a mag 2 or 3, i ran a 40 breeder with a 40 breeder sump a few years ago and had to t off the pump because the overflow couldn't keep up, might help you save some cash

Really? I've been told that a Mag 5 or 7 will work well b/c one 1.5" hole will get about 400-600 gph of drainage into my sump.. Does anybody know specifics on what size holes will get what flow rates? That would help out A LOT!!!

here is a calculator link for it, but i cant get it to work, maybe you can http://reefcentral.com/index.php/drainoverflow-size-calc a mag 7 is 700gph though isn't it? you want a pump that will push a little less than your drain can take other wise you dont get a nice flow through. you get a gurgling sound and floods if something happens to a return line. i've had it happen to me before. i am stepping down to a 800gph return on my 120 with dual 1.5" over flows to give you an idea. hope that helps a little. ask gered what he uses for his return pump on his 40 breeder

Ok. Thank you. This does help a lot. Chosing the right return pump has been one of the hardest parts of this upgrade, silly as it may seem /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/tongue.gif

I'm not sure if the RC thing is correct. First, you have to keep trying different numbers until it'll accept, like 400 or 800 gph. And it says a hole 1.17" will get 800 gph drainage...

You can use a bigger pump on your return just "tee" it off at the output and control the flow with a gate valve. Check out Melevs Reef . It shows how to control the output with a gate valve without undue back pressure on the pump.
