So I am curious what kinds of Zoas people have here and what growth they are seeing.. Do you use iodine at all? Magensium levels helping with growth etc??

Especially looking for experience with Blue Hornets and Purple People Eaters

Personally I keep it simple. I Have a 29g CAD tank so full of zoos your head will spin. I DO NOT run a skimmer, have T-5 lighting and vary the bulbs each 6 months, do religious weekly water changes, no additives ever and feed a reasonable amount daily with a mix of Rod's reef, pellet and Reef Chili. I have a pretty hefty fish and bio-load too. I have noticed each colony is dramatically different though. I have a group of 12 different types that I bought 1-2 polyps of each at the same time and all reacted/grew at different rates. For example, the rastas have probably 100+ heads where as the purple hornets and salted agave only have 10 or so. I have a Jason Fox blood shot that took 6 months to grow its second head but then grew 10 in the next month. One thing I have noticed is that regardless of the zoo flavor, if I get them off the frag plug and on a piece of rubble rock, they seem to grow better. I base this off of personal experience with multiple different trials. In fact, I now make every effort to put new ones on the rock ASAP. With that being said, I have also had terrible luck a time or too. I bought about 10 different frags from a local reefer in Des Moines, all looked awesome in his tank and within 2 months, all died at my place. The only thing I can think of is that they get accustomed to their environment and the changes to the next must be dramatic enough to cause the massive die off. My personal 2 cents and experience.

Great info.. I have just read that Magnesium is good and Iodine speeds up the multiplying.. I just want them to be healthy.. I dont care about how quickly they grow. I have some PPE's that I hear do great in some tanks and not so well in others.. Just curious what the magic is /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

I will vouch with Reeffified he does have one heck of a clean tank and his zoas go crazy in there.
