I never wear gloves and didn't realize this was so bad. I'm second guessing this stuff? I know people always say to wear gloves but everyone I know doesn't.

Yes, it's true. I think there's a bit of hysteria also associated with it, but I do think it should be treated with caution non the less. I don't wear gloves (probably should) but I always wear eye protection! The only time I didn't wear eye protection I got squirted (yes they can shoot their juices too!) I got shot right above my eye ball, my lid was mostly shut (thank the Lord). But my eye and surrounding skin was swollen and red and swollen. This lasted for near 3 days. My hands have had similar reactions as well. I always frag in separate dishes NEVER in DT, and toss the water when done!

I knew they were toxic but I thought it was more like a bee sting.

That is the main reason that I have decided to stay away from Zoas right now. I cannot guarantee that my kids will stay away from my aquariums and therefore it isn't worth the worry to have them around. Someday when they know better but they are 4yrs and 2yrs right now. Little hands everywhere.

klmule I too have thought about steering away from zoa's due to my little one, but ultimately with my just under 2 year old, I just do my best to keep her away from the tank (not always possible, I know!) And have limited my collection down to favorites for now.
