Thanks Gered!   I hope the weather holds but it's not sounding too good at all for us travelers.   Last I heard is 2-3" of snow for Ds.Ms. and winds in the 40-50mph range!  If that's the case, I won't be going either

 

If anyone else thinks they will not be able to make it please let me know. I don't want to postpone if a majority of the people are still planning on making it. And it sounds like Fishbrain is going to be there no matter what.

 

Ames is a joke right now, most likely I will be staying right here if I get any worse.

 

How much snow and wind is there Matt?  I'm in M'tn.

 

Based on conditions now, I am planning to make the party.  Unfortunately this may be just the lull before the storm - and conditions could change quickly.  I just returned from babysitting for my nephews kids.  They live on a farm about 10 miles west of I35, off the county road that goes between Cumming & Winterset.  The road was pretty well covered with ice - not fun.  I was glad my vehicle is AWD.  I35 was clear.  So, unless folks are coming on main roads, its NOT good out there.  I'm planning to come to the party - but would have no objections if you want to delay it.  Sounds like if we have the party it will end up being mainly a Des Moines party, and not our members that are closeby.  Tough decison!

 

I am going to go ahead and postpone the official Christmas party until a later date. That being said, there are still a few coming that are meeting Bill. If anyone would like to still come and eat and talk that would be fine. Unfortunately, you would have to buy your own food and drinks as we can only afford to have one party. I will be there and everyone is still welcome to come and just have a good time chatting.

I ordered frags from Bill and Jim but will not be coming in today from Marshalltown. Joel said he would keep my frags until I could pick them up. Does anyone know if Joel is still going to make it to Ds. Ms?

 

Thanks Gered!  I didn't think he would chance it.  Hopefully someone will keep me apprised of where my RBTA, frogspawn and other 8/9 corals will end up...Please!!  Thanks!  Sorry that I'm being a pain!  I don't want anyone getting into a bad driving situation nor do I want anyone's corals/livestock ending up dying

 

Wise decision.  Now, I just remembered that I have a couple of frags from potroast - but I don't feel like going out in this if I don't have to.  Joe - can you just hold them for me - and maybe I can stop and get them sometime on Sunday???

 

How's it doing there in DS MS Jeanette?  Here in M'tn we still are not snowing, have a dusting but the gravel roads are ice(I drive on gravel).  I was wondering about Joe myself if he could keep mine?  Joel said he'd take care of mine but I'm a worry-wart right now

 

Umm Ames hasn't got snow really yet sponge but its crazy slick. Overall I would guess Des Moines would be better because of the medocire DOT!

 

Thanks Matt! I think we are still in the lull before the snow and wind. I would have chanced the drive to Ds Ms but I'm guessing when it hits, it's all going to come at once!

 

I haven't been out since about 1:30.  Temp is still hovering around 20.  Winds are picking up a bit - but we haven't gotten any more snow yet.  So main roads may be good, but otherwise - crap.
I think the problem came from the temps dropping so fast.  I walked with my dog at 7:15 this morning - temp close to 40 -light rain - turned to snow.  At 8:00 when I got back to the car, the temp had dropped to 33 - driving to my nephews house at 9:00 and the temp had dropped to 24.  On the county road where the road is exposed to the winds, when I came home at 1:00 it was mainly ice covered.....  Course my opinion is also tempered by the fact that at 9:00 this morning (when I didn't think it was bad at all) a semi-truck was on its side right at the Cumming/Norwalk exit off I35.
So, I think the interstate is probably ok (but you never know if you might hit some black ice), but I wouldn't want to be driving on side roads.  My car would probably be ok, but I don't trust the other idiots out there!
Yeah, I'd like my frags, but I'm not willing to risk things to go get them.

Driving around Des Moines has been fine all day. Not sure when or even if it is going to hit the metro area. Some parking lots are a little slick.

 

I'm trying to call Bill.  He just called me and I was on the other phone talking to the daughter who's working in Ds Ms at Methodist.  Lifeflight has been grounded so hopefully noone will need it
Jeanette, if you have Joe's number can you call him about our corals.  Jim doesn't know we aren't going to be picking them up

Joe is keeping our corals tonight  Just talked to him as he and Bill are heading to his house.  Joe works tomorrow until 2 or 3.  I'm going to try to get mine tomorrow as long as the roads are ok.  They corals are in safe keeping...YAY!!!
